Dia de los Muertos

31 de October de 2008

In America, Halloween is all about fun costumes and lots of candy, but in Mexican culture, November 1 and 2 marks a time to remember, honor and celebrate those who have passed away. This traditional holiday is appropriately named Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. The Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos, in Spanish) is a holiday celebrated mainly in Mexico and by people of Mexican heritage living in the United States and Canada. The holiday is a time for family and friends to come together to pray for and honor those who have died. Traditionally, this is done by building private altars, preparing favorite foods of the honorees, and visiting graves with these gifts. Other traditional gifts are decorated skulls made of sugar, and marigolds. In some areas, Dia de Los Muertos is a full blown celebration with dedicated festivals and entertainment. The celebration occurs in connection with the Catholic holy days of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day which take place on the same days. Observance of the holiday in Mexican-American communities in the United States has become more important and widespread as the community grows. Join in this cultural celebration at Pueblo Bonito luxury resorts in Cabo, Riviera Nayarit or Mazatalan. Visit our website at http://www.pueblobonito.com for information and to book your room today.
